Dream In Color/Southwood Middle School

This special project consisted of artistically painting pillowcases and presenting/donating them to children in need who are living in homeless shelters in South Florida. The hope was that when the children lay their heads down at night – they would have their own special pillowcase to remind them to always “DREAM IN COLOR”! The pillowcase project included the participation of 300 art students at Southwood Middle School in Miami, Florida. The front of the pillowcase featured a unique design painted and created by each student. No two pillowcases were alike! The back of the pillowcase had the special statement “DREAM IN COLOR”.

Each child received a very special piece of artwork made just for them. It was a “goodie” that was theirs to keep forever and would travel with them wherever they go. This project was personal, thoughtful and heartfelt. A spirit of school and community was experienced by all! Students, parents, school administrators, shelter staff and children all came together and felt a great sense of care for each other.

We thank our sponsors for this project: Starbuck's, Hands on Miami, Jacquard Products and Princeton Art & Brush.
